Board of Directors:

Picture
Frank Bell, Chair, Tuxedo, NC
Graduate of Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT), RF-4 pilot for the Marine Corps, director of Mondamin 1973 through 2013, three children. Favorite pursuits: paddling rivers, backpacking, sailing, biking, flying (and teaching flying at a nearby flight school). Retired, enjoying grand kids (six… and counting?), still doing some storytelling and trip leading in the summers.  Lover of remote places, whether they be rivers, mountaintops, canyons, lakes, etc… and sharing adventures with whomever will go along.
Picture
Svend Deal, Charlotte, NC
Svend is a North Carolina native who grew up backpacking, camping and canoeing as a Boy Scout all over the Southeast.  After a thoroughly entertaining amateur rugby career in and after college, Svend turned his attention back to the hills and mountains of home, this time on a mountain bike.  Soon thereafter he joined the mountain bike staff at Mondamin, and eventually headed up the program for six years.  At Mondamin, Svend re-discovered the rivers of his home state and beyond, and started kayaking.  Now a lawyer, he lives on Lake Summit in Tuxedo.  Svend has a collection of kayaks that were bested by the Green River Narrows.
Picture
David Kaminski, Carrboro, NC
David escaped the summers of NYC to be a third generation camper at Mondamin.  He returned on staff for 8 summers, including 2 years in the year round Associate/Program Director role. David left Mondamin to pursue a medical career, obtaining his MD from Wake Forest University and completing his residency in Emergency Medicine at UNC. He has since served as Camp Doctor a number of times. He is also an instructor for NOLS Wilderness Medicine and has assisted with staff training at Camp. When he moved away from the mountains for medical school, he picked up the bad habit of Ultimate Frisbee, but can still be found hiking, mountain biking, sailing, and skiing with his family. He lives in Carrboro, NC with his wife and 2 kids.  They make their way to Western NC frequently.
Picture
Kim Jordan, Tuxedo, NC
Kim has served as the secretary/treasurer for the Frank and Calla Bell Scholarship Foundation since 2003 and has been the year-round office manager/secretary/registrar at Camp Mondamin for over 20 years; she worked at both Mondamin and Green Cove as a teenager and young adult.  Her parents and all four of her brothers have been employed at Mondamin at one time or another, so her camp ties are strong.  Kim graduated from Montreat College as a working adult and loves exploring the Back 40 with her dog.
Picture
Rick Deluga, Seattle, WA
After obtaining his MSSW in 2017, Rick is working in Seattle as a clinical social worker, providing mental health services to individuals who are currently homeless or have a history of homelessness.  He worked at Mondamin from 2004-2017 on the mountaineering staff, eventually as head of mountaineering for 8 years.  Rick also spent time in the boat shop and as administrative director.  Watching small boys develop into counselors and leaders underscores the need for scholarships, which allow boys and girls from financially challenged families to have similar opportunities.  His camp experience has provided Rick many tools that he uses today in the urban wilds of Seattle.

William Felder, Dallas, TX and Tuxedo, NC
After a career in the Financial Services Industry Bill and his wife Katharine reside in Tuxedo NC during the summer where Bill teaches sailing at Camp Mondamin.  Bill was a camper at Mondamin in the 60’s and was on the riding staff in the 70’s during his college years.
Picture
Rob Giersch, Atlanta, GA
Camper and counselor at Mondamin in the 80’s, Rob now resides with his wife and two sons in Atlanta.  He has spent the last 24 years working for The Coca-Cola Company supporting and developing innovations across their global markets.  Rob has a B.S. in mechanical engineering and attended the Goizueta Business School at Emory.  He attributes much of his success and thirst for adventure to his time at camp, and tries to share those experiences and love for the outdoors with family and friends.  Supporting the Bell Scholarship is a unique opportunity to more proactively give others that “camp experience”.  Rob still tries to spend as much time as possible in the mountains or on rivers, friends and family in tow, trusty camera by his side.

Frances Clayton, New York City
Green Cove camper and counselor for 12 years, graduate of the University of Virginia.  Following UVA, Frances returned to Green Cove as the Assistant Director for three years.  She was the third generation in her family to spend the summers in Tuxedo.  She moved to NYC, received a Masters in Social Work from New York University and completed coursework for a Master’s in Child Development from Sarah Lawrence College.  Since then she has worked at Andrus Children’s Center in Yonkers, NY, first as a clinician, then as the Director of Residential Services and now as the Director of the Andrus Early Learning Center.  Though she is not sure about trading the dirt roads for subways, she is still able to enjoy hiking on nice weekends and finding the magic of the natural world on every city block.

Tina Clark, Asheville, NC
Tina was a camper and counselor for 10 years beginning in 1983. She has been married for 20 years to her husband Gren (a former Mondamin mountaineering counselor) with whom she has 2 children, Sydney and Dylan.  Sydney has been an enthusiastic Green Cove camper for 6 summers. Tina has a BA in Psychology from Hollins College and a MSEd in Counseling from Old Dominion University.  She and Gren moved back to “the place that always felt like home” in 2006. She served as a volunteer crisis counselor and support group facilitator at Helpmate (a local domestic violence agency) for several years before opening her private counseling practice in 2011. As a former recipient of financial assistance from the Bell family as a camper, Tina feels fortunate to be able to now assist the Bell family in building the fund and positive opportunities for a multitude of future campers.

Shelton Steele, Asheville, NC
North Carolina native and second generation camp alum, Shelton was a camper/counselor at Mondamin for over 10 years. Tethered to Western North Carolina by his love for the rivers & mountains, Shelton lives in Asheville with his wife, Margaret; daughter Molly; and son Simon. He currently works in real estate development in the Asheville area. Good friendships are founded on shared experiences, and Shelton's network of camp friends continue to be a source of adventure and good times. His goal is to get them all back to Alumni Camp on Labor Day weekend, where they can all raise the next generation of campers.

Lee Knight Caffery, Charlotte, NC
Lee Knight was a second generation Green Cove camper in the 80s and then a counselor for six summers. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and Vermont Law School, Lee Knight lives in Charlotte with her wife and two children, Miller and Margot.  She is General Counsel for Wildlands Engineering, Inc. and an adjunct professor at both Charlotte School of Law and Queens University.  As often as possible, Lee Knight and her family travel to the western NC mountains, spending long weekends hiking in the woods and playing in mountain rivers and streams.  She aspires to return to Green Cove as a staff member in the future once she can figure out how to become independently wealthy so she can resign from her full time job, leaving her summers free for cookouts on Otie's Knob, square dances and Tajar Tales.

Picture
Dori Luke, Charlotte, NC
Dori has her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in psychology and recreation administration, and her Masters in Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill as well. During her time at Chapel Hill she was president of the outing club, leading many outdoor trips and facilitating ropes courses. She also worked for two summers as a raft guide at Nantahala Outdoor Center many years ago, and helped write curriculum and establish the non-profit, Girls on the Run.  Her two boys attend Mondamin thanks to partial financial support from the foundation, giving them a chance to learn life skills and independence through adventure.  She is looking forward to helping make that experience possible for more young people.

Picture
Carter Ramsay, Ketchum, ID
Carter was a second generation camper starting on Middler line and working up through the ranks as a Baron and Senior.  He was a counselor for three years before guiding for Moondance Adventures.  Through his High School years in Chattanooga, TN and college years in Boone, NC at Appalachian, Lake Summit was always a home base and the Back 40 a place to keep grounded.  He and his wife Margot live in Ketchum, Idaho with their three children Angus Robert, Ford Benjamin and Georgia Rae.
Picture
Sabrina Tandon, Atlanta, GA
Sabrina was a counselor at Green Cove for five years in the 90s and now lives in Atlanta with her husband and two daughters; her oldest daughter attended June camp for the first time this summer. She has a BA in English and Spanish from Emory University and an MBA in Marketing and Corporate Responsibility from UNC-Chapel Hill. Sabrina has spent the past 17 years working for the Coca-Cola Company in marketing, innovation and business strategy roles.  In her spare time, she enjoys trail running, hiking, and yoga.  Sabrina’s time at Green Cove had a profound impact on her personal and professional development, and she is honored to be able to support the Foundation so others can experience the magic of camp.
Picture
Aza Bowlin, Baton Rouge, LA
After graduating from Tulane University, Aza spent her professional career in capital campaign major gifts fundraising for Tulane University Health Sciences Center, Loyola University Law School and finally Arkansas Children’s Hospital.  Once she moved back to her native Louisiana and “retired,” her husband Tim jokes that she started a new career as a professional volunteer fundraiser for non-profit organizations.  She currently serves as Treasurer for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Foundation.  Aza’s most proud moment in either career was when the new Knock Knock Children’s Museum opened during her tenure as Board Chair and after many years of fundraising.  Aza was a Green Cove camper for 7 magical summers in the ‘80s and on staff for one summer.  Her twin boys, Mondamin campers for 7 summers so far, have caught the paddling fever.  Camp has long held the position as the most influential experience in her life.
