In Memory of Frank and Calla Bell

Their legacy was the teaching of children and passing on of the wonders and values of the natural world.

"The wilderness can be a magnificent playground and a great university. If education is a series of continuing experiences that build the knowledges, the skills, the habits, the appreciations, the attitudes, the values, and ultimately and hopefully the wisdom that enrich living, then we need to go far beyond the classroom. "

Help send kids to camp who cannot otherwise have the experience.

The Friends of the Foundation are members who pledge to give every year.

Help a child come to camp who otherwise could not.

We are working hard to offer camp to less financially advantaged youngsters, and need your help. Many alumni have been extremely generous in their donations to the scholarship fund. If you have contributed, thank you!

If not, perhaps you'd consider it. Tax deductible donations may be sent to:

History:
The Frank D. Bell, Sr. Scholarship Foundation, Inc. was created to raise money to fund scholarships for campers who might not otherwise be able to attend Camps Mondamin and Green Cove.  The Foundation was incorporated in 1996, but funds for scholarships began pouring in shortly after the death of Camp Mondamin’s founder Frank (Chief) Bell Sr. After the death of Calla Bell, Chief’s wife and the director of Green Cove for many years, the foundation board voted to change the name of the foundation to The Frank and Calla Bell Scholarship Foundation.

The first few years of the fund’s existence were dedicated to fundraising and getting set up as a 501(c)3 foundation. The fund began contributing to the tuition of scholarship campers in 2004 when we contributed toward 13 campers attending Mondamin and Green Cove. In 2005 we helped 18 campers attend. Our contributions to aid in camp tuitions were minimal until we undertook a grand scale fundraising effort in the fall of 2005.  2006 was a unique year in that we focused on scholarships for those campers affected by the Gulf Coast hurricanes of the previous year. As a result of the generous donations contributed by alumni, we were able to fully fund the scholarships of nine campers to camp in the summer of 2006. We find that from year to year, these campers make a positive contribution to the camp community.  We are looking forward to helping additional young people in 2009 and beyond.  Donations have been made primarily by alumni and through a bi-annual Canoe/Kayak clinic held at Mondamin each spring and fall.
